CODE OF CONDUCT

We expect all company members to sign a Code of Conduct form for each production

Company Members will:

  1. Show respect for others: Our company will respect the rights and feelings of the other members. Fighting, bullying, name calling, intimidations, bigotry of any kind, inappropriate language or any other form of emotional or physical abuse or unwanted contact directed to one another, Directors or Volunteers will not be tolerated.
  2. Maintain a Professional Focus: Members of our company are expected to pay attention to and follow the Directors so that they can get the most out of their time here. Disruptive, distracting or problematic behavior that affects this learning environment will not be tolerated. Members may not use cell phones or electronic games during classes, rehearsals, or performances. Cell phones must remain off during these periods.
  3. Respect our Theatre: Company members will respect the rehearsal and theatre facilities, costumes, props, sets, and all other Yukon Theatre for Young People property. They will pick up after themselves and work to keep the theatre and class rooms clean.
  4. Dangerous Items: Never use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco and none of these or weapons of any kind are permitted at rehearsals or performances.
  5. Displays of Affection: Not engage in inappropriate public displays of affection. Our company members are expected to act as professionals on and off the stage Yukon Theatre for Young People, and no unprofessional or suggestive conduct will be tolerated.
  6. Always be On Time: Show up to rehearsals,  and performances on-time and ready to get to work with all necessary props, costumes, notes or scripts.
  7. Not Leave Unless Dismissed: Not leave the show or rehearsal unless excused by a Director or when the Directors dismiss the group.
  8. Dress Appropriately: Our company members are expected to dress appropriately for all rehearsals and production roles except where otherwise guided by the Director for a show’s costume or for specific program activity. Items with provocative, offensive, violent or drug related pictures or slogans will not be permitted. Items advertising alcoholic beverages or tobacco products will not be permitted. Appropriate foot wear is expected at all times. No sandals, flip flops, boots, bare feet, will be allowed. Company members should wear suitable shoes for movement such as dance shoes or running shoes..
  9. Never Discriminate: Discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability, or on any other basis prohibited by law, is never allowed.
  10. Abide by the Three Strike Rule: Company members breaking any of the code of conduct rules will have the following disciplinary actions. The first instance: members will be given a verbal warning by the Director. The second instance: members will be given a verbal warning, and parent/guardian will be contacted. Third instance: members will be dismissed permanently from the show, company, or rehearsal.


Commitment Letter

All company members and production program participants will be expected to sign a letter of commitment to the production.  These letters will outline the time commitment and energy commitment expected of all company members during a particular production.

PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Our parents/guardians shall:


1. Ensure their student follows the Rules of Conduct adopted by Yukon Theatre for Young People (YTYP).


2. Ensure their student attends scheduled rehearsals regularly and shows up on time with all necessary materials, dressed appropriately, and is prepared to complete the expected activities.


3. Encourage their young person to work at home to learn materials and is ready to perform.


4. Willingly participate in Director discussions to review a young person’s progress and welfare.


5. Bring to the attention of YTYP any conditions that may adversely affect their young person's experience.


6. Maintain communication with YTYP as needed. Parents are responsible for providing a means by which to receive communication concerning production our production should maintain home, work and emergency contact information.


7. Be supportive of YTYP activities, set-build requirements, show-support functions and other activities and willingly supports and volunteers to assist as requested.


8. Ensure their language to their own student and others, as it relates to the production, is supportive, constructive, age appropriate and of a positive nature. 


9. Understand that the public electronic distribution or livestreaming of any video or audio recording of any activity is not permitted, and any recording must conform to the production’s associated licensing rights (any questions about this can be directed to info@ytyp.ca.


10.The parent assumes full responsibility for any act or omission of their young person during any YTYP activity.


11.The Parent agrees and understands that the Director is in charge of the production. The Director is accountable for the production outcome and is solely responsible for the creative and artistic process.  Concerns with a Director’s actions or efforts should be addressed to the YTYP Board of Directors.


12.Parents may not influence or attempt to influence, challenge or question a Director’s casting, role or line assignment, or other show-related decision.


13.Parents may not ask or encourage any Board Member to violate their Board Code of Conduct, by requesting a Board Member take action on their behalf to influence or attempt to influence, challenge or question a Director’s casting, role or line assignment, or other show-related decision.


14.Understand and agree that the Director will hold closed rehearsals which restrict parents and guardians from observing rehearsals.


If at any time a parent or guardian observes actions or activities from students, YTYP staff or other parents, that they believe is inappropriate, they will promptly make the Board of Directors aware of the situation.


Parents/Guardians acknowledge that any violation of the above could result in their young person’s termination from a show or activity and the revocation of all privileges with Yukon Theatre for Young People.
