Thank you for joining us for this exciting production of Roald Dahl's beloved classic! Whether the title conjures up for you Dahl's whimsical children's book, Gene Wilder's unforgettable performance in the 1971 film version, one of the subsequent movie reimaginings, or if this is your first time experiencing this wildly imaginative story, we're so thankful to be able to share it with you onstage with all the magic of live theatre!
The world has changed a lot since the first version of this story in 1964 - but like any great tale, it has a timeless quality that renders it just as relevant today. This new musical theatre rendition, which debuted in 2013 to critical acclaim, hauls the story into the 21st century, complete with all new temptations and bad habits that Roald Dahl could hardly have imagined.
At the heart of this story is a cautionary tale about growing up, and about raising compassionate and imaginative young people. Whether it's spending too much time scrolling on our phones or watching netflix, lacking the restraint to deny ourselves that next piece of cake or second round of drinks, living for the distorted reflection of ourselves that we show to social media, or expecting the people in our lives to revolve around us like the earth around the Sun, I think we all feel the pull of our worse natures, in our own ways. Maybe you'll recognize some aspect of yourself in some of the characters onstage tonight - I know I do.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a story about all the different temptations that young people have to overcome today; it's a story about how our families can bring out the best or the worst in us, and about what the world can look like when we're truly compassionate, selfless, and imaginative.
I believe that participating in live performance is the perfect antidote to modern life's exhausting attention-economy; theatre teaches us to delight in sharing stories, in using our imagination, and in setting aside the time to gather together and celebrate talent and creativity in our communities. My sincerest thanks go out to all of you for sharing in this wonderful experience, and I hope you'll have as much fun watching the results of our hard work as we did putting it together. Yukon Theatre for Young People is a real treasure for our territory, and I encourage all the young people out in the audience who might be inspired by all the creativity on display here today to get involved and flex your creative muscles onstage in the future!
Enjoy the show!

He has been an active member of Yukon Theatre for Young People (YTYP) for the past three years, taking on various roles and gaining valuable experience along the way. Nolan is particularly excited about his role as Willy Wonka, which he is eager to portray with creativity and enthusiasm.
In addition to his academic and theatrical pursuits, Nolan has a strong passion for sports and outdoor activities. Whether playing sports or exploring nature, he enjoys staying active and embracing new adventures. He’s always up for a new challenge and never turns down the chance to make his friends and family laugh.

Kluane's past roles include Chip (Beauty and the Beast), Matilda (Matilda jr.), Bielke (Fiddler on the Roof), and Winifred (Mary Poppins jr.). Outside of performing, you can find her playing volleyball, baking, and being with her family. Kluane is beyond ecstatic to be performing again with such an incredible cast and crew. She hopes to see you there!! :)
John-Patrick (JP) is ecstatic to be in YTYP’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He has loved growing up in the company, starting as Ensemble in Beauty and the Beast, a featured role in Fiddler on the Roof and now a lead as Grandpa Joe in Charlie. Along with entertaining audiences, JP loves to hit the volleyball court. He is easy to spot - just look for the neon pink and acid green shoes!
Heidi (she/her) is thrilled to be playing Mrs. Bucket and joining the ensemble for her final mainstage show with YTYP! You may have seen her in the ‘Les Misérables’ ensemble (2022), as Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2023), or as Grandma Tzeitel in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ (2024). In the fall, she’ll be heading to UBCO to study linguistics. When she’s not on stage, she’s probably singing in her car, hanging out with friends, or doing her nails. She’s incredibly grateful to be part of such a fun production with an amazing cast and crew, and she hopes to see you at the show!
Eleven-year-old Arthur has been a dancer at The Heart of Riverdale since 2019, performing in many of their shows. He specializes in breakdancing and recently went to Montreal for a week with The Heart’s pre-professional program for an educational dance intensive. You may have just seen Arthur in the role of Michael Banks in The Heart's Musical Theatre program production of Mary Poppins Jr. at Art From The Heart 2025, which was his acting debut. Off stage, Arthur loves his advanced parkour classes at the Yukon Gymnastics Centre, pushing the speed and vertical envelopes on his skis at Mount Sima, and - like Mike Teavee - gaming with his friends. Arthur has had a blast playing Mike Teavee and working with everyone at YTYP!
Layla (she/her) is very excited to be playing the role of Veruca Salt! She is 14 years old, born and raised in Haines Junction, and has recently moved to Whitehorse. This will be her first musical and she is very excited to perform!
Zorion (she/her) is very pleased to play Violet Beauregard in YTYP's production of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Harper is proud to be part of this magical show and hopes you enjoy the performance!
Halia (she/her) has always had a passion for the performing arts, whether it was her 7 years of violin, 4 years of dance or her debut in theatre in the MAD program. Some notable theatricals Halia has been in include two semesters in the MAD program, The Wolves (Guild, 2022), Be More Chill (Candlestick Theatre, 2023), Fiddler on the Roof (YTYP, 2024) and many more.

It’s probably too much, but no one really wants to spoil his fun. He also likes to watch movies when he can. He has a Letterboxd account and is very proud of it. Finally, he also likes to coerce people into learning overly complicated board games to play with him. Paisley (she/they) is thrilled (and possibly hopped up on sugar) to be the Associate Stage Manager for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! With a knack for keeping everything running smoother than a Wonka chocolate river, they have spent their time wrangling props, managing chaos, and occasionally making sure the Oompa Loompas are in line.

You will always find Paisley in the theatre, either backstage or on. Previous YTYP credits include Beauty and the Beast 2023, Rent 2023, and Fiddler on the Roof 2024 as Assistant Stage Manager, as well as Hadestown 2024 as the Associate Stage Manager. They’re beyond excited to help make this whimsical show a sweet, smooth success (hopefully without too much chocolate-related mishap)!

In her free time, you can find Iliana kayaking, playing the drums, reading, or running track. Working as an ASM has been an amazing experience

The thing she loves most about this position is getting to be the “theatre big sister” to each and every YTYPer. Growing up in YTYP has taught her so much, and she is immensely proud to be a part of this wonderful family. She would like to thank Angela Drainville for her mentorship and constant encouragement.
